Our 24th of July started out the night before. It has become a tradition for Monte's cross-country team to come and race the Speedy Spaniard on the 24th of July. We invited the runners to come and sleep on our lawn or house the night before. We never know who or how many will show up. This year I think we about hit our limit as 22 high school students showed up at our house to sleep. 22 students, plus our family of 4, plus my sister and her husband make 28 people. Luckily My sister and her husband, and a few of the more serious runners, slept at my in-laws down the street. Still, we ended up with out 21 sleeping at our house. Let's just say that 21 people with two bathrooms is not such a great idea. We built a fire in our fire pit and let the kids have fun roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. The girls got some music playing and enjoyed dancing by the fire. Camryn couldn't help but to join in. The Speedy Spaniard 10K race was a big success this year for Monte's team. One of his runners won the whole race with four others finishing 3rd, 9th, 10th, and 12th overall. After the race we invited the runners back to our house for pancakes. It was here that I decided that fitting 30 people in my family room and kitchen is not easy task. We had people everywhere trying to find some place to sit and eat. It was great though! I hope this is a tradition what will last for a while.
